Jim's Training To End Strokes With The American Stroke Association

I had a STROKE on January 24th. 1991 that took most of the strength from my Arms, Legs and Hands, and I also lost most of my speech and memory of life before the Stroke. My Stroke was caused by AVM's(weak blood vessels) bleeding in my brain. The doctors told me I would be dead within 2 years.
I am very thankful every day that they were wrong.

With lots of hard work and help I have recovered about 95% and doing very good. Now it my chance to help others so I have taken up the task of raising funds for the AMERICAN STROKE ASSOCIATION by doing a marathon. I can't run anymore since the stroke but I have the option of walking so I will walk the 26.2 miles in the Kona, Hawaii marathon.

This is a fundraiser for the AMERICAN STROKE ASSOCIATION an NPO. My part of the fundraising is $6,000 by March 20th., to help them continue with research and education.

STROKES are the 3rd leading cause of death and the number 1 cause of serious disability
in the United Stated.
Every 45 seconds, someone in America has a STROKE and Every 3 minutes someone will
die because of a STROKE.

The American Stroke Association through fund raising like this and others, wants to reduce
all these numbers through research and education on the warning signs of a STROKE.

Those warnings signs are,

Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg.
Sudden confusion, trouble speeking or understanding others.
Sudden trouble with you vision.
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance.
Sudden severe headache without a known cause.

If you or anyone you know ever have any of these signs please CALL--911 right away, because
the sooner you get the hospital and get treatment for a STROKE the better chance you have for
a fuller recovery and normal life.

I am taking part in this marathon not with just my memory of having a Stroke but my brother-in-law, Butch had one that he had to fight very hard to recover from. He is now doing good but will never work again the same as myself. The spirit of Butch and others will inspire to keep going when it tough during the 26.2 miles.
